Altering - techniques, tips and tricks

This is a thread for new and experienced card alterists to ask questions and post advice.

To start the thread with, what’s your favourite way to prime cards for a thin and smooth base? I’m especially struggling with white/light backgrounds, the white is usually either thin and patchy or too thick.

Favorite way to prime cards for me is just going in with a light gray, letting the first layer dry softly so that I can still see the card underneath, and then just building up layers from there.

Many times If I don’t like the initial priming that I did, I will take a damp paper towel and wipe it off and try again. All Trial and error like most things
