How strong and refined can we make this deck before the release of The Cabbage Merchant on November 14th? Could this deck compete with Blue Farm for the top spot? What does green offer to the strategy that red does not?

After a long stint of playing Rog/Thras as my primary tournament deck, I am looking to try something new. As a player that always tries to improve his scope and understanding of different strategies, I need to learn more about how Tymna strategies function. I’ve been looking for a deck with White in it for a few months, and nothing has felt strong or interesting enough to keep my attention. With The Cabbage Man entering the format, I think there could be a legitimate reason to choose TnT over TnK.

Let’s look at what the colors offer:

Red: Underworld Breach, REB/Pyroblast, Final Fortune, Deflecting Swat, Birgi, PFB, Ragavan, Wheel of Fortune, Gamble, Rituals(Rite of Flame, Jeska’s Will, etc.), Mayhem Devil, Kraum

Green: The Cabbage Merchant, Kinnan, Culling Ritual, Veil of Summer, Boseiju, Gaea’s Cradle, Mana Dorks(Birds, DRS, Hierarch), Battlefield Tutors(Finale, Chord, GSZ, Eldritch ), Kutzil, Devoted Druid, Crop Rotation, Thrasios

This isn’t a comprehensive list by any means but it illustrates that the decks aren’t far off in terms of card quality. You don’t have the speed of Blue Farm, but there is a lot to like about going into green. Most of the current TnT lists are playing Devoted Druid lines, and very few are playing Ad Naus. There’s also a contingency of players leaning into Cradle for Breezecaller lines. One of the beautiful things about TnT is just how many cards could be viable to play in the 99, but it’s a curse as much as it’s a blessing. The meta has been shifting towards the proactive, can TnT be built in a way to capitalize on this trend?

It can be built proactive, but overall it’s about a turn slower than Farm on average. It also doesn’t quite pivot as well, can’t convert a Necro as well, and obviously doesn’t have breach. Green helps with consistency but I’m not favoring that play style at the moment.

These are good points, I definitely feel it being a step behind Farm when playing the two decks. Do you think Tymna/Thras is better served by taking the midrange roll? Do you think having a Sevinne’s line with Intuition makes the deck stronger? Not playing out of the graveyard in a more consistent manner is definitely a point against TnT when trying to play turbo. I’m also not 100% sure that Green helps with consistency. It gives you stable mana, in that its mana sources stay on board. If we want to leverage that advantage you may just have to concede to playing a slower game. As far as consistently pushing for wins, Blue Farm feels like it has the edge.
