[CRIT] Came Here to Eat Lobsters and Sac Dargos and I'm All Out of Lobsters

  • Commander(s): Tymna/Dargo
  • Color Identity: Mardu
  • Game Plan: Turbo mardu deck that looks to win on T3-T4 via resolving a silence effect into an explosive draw effect such as Peer, Altar of the Wretched, Bolas’s, Ad Naus, etc. Can pivot into the Tymna grind plan easily and has a few ways to win without interaction points like Rector into Breach, pyre into GA, and more. This deck can easily put up 3-4 win attempts in a single turn and is extremely resilient.

Hey Jordan! I absolutely adore Dargo and have wanted to pick up Dardu for a hot minute now. My own list is still on the “fat,” though I’m wondering if cutting it and leaning more turbo like your deck is more optimal. What would you recommend to new Dardu pilots looking to take their play to the next level? Thank you for your dedication to this deck.

Yo dude! Thanks so much for the comment. (: When you say fat, what does that mean to you? I generally feel like playing the most proactive version of a deck that you can is “free” right now and likely will be for quite awhile.

the biggest thing Dargo pilots need, IMO, is just to know all their lines inside and out. These Dargo decks give you a tremendous amount of flexibility for assembling wins and combos on the fly and you need to know what you’re looking for. It’s rarely as easy as “cast breach, profit”. This one is a little bit more meta, but you kinda have to trust the deck to get you there. It’s so combo dense that if you can resolve a silence effect and a draw 7 like altar of the wretched, you’re almost certainly winning that turn but you have to send it even if it’s not super clear yet how you’ll get there.

I’m a lot higher on extra turn spells than most other Dardu pilots are because it’s a deck that 1. Really only plays at sorcery speed on its own turn and 2. Requires more game actions on average to get there than a lot of other decks. So you want it to be your turn for as long as possible when you’re sending it.

one play pattern I got from Sylvie that I can’t emphasize the efficacy of enough is sticking an early Necro and tutoring for EZone after. Ezone seems cope but if you can rip 30 cards and play at instant speed in this deck, you are going to win. It’s also our only way around getting silenced if you can create a cleanup trigger to respond to. I’m super happy to talk about this anytime in more detail too but I’ll leave it at that for now (:

I’m so glad you responded! By “fat,” I mean the winmore cards like Delney, Mayhem devil, and PFB. It’s what initially drew me to Dardu; being able to make a huge, over-the-top Tymna engine and explode with Dargo after drawing 3 cards / making 3 treasures.

Sending it is definitely something I need to become more comfortable with; having just picked up Dargo decks in general I’m not used to his lines yet, therefore playing it safe and under-committing to Dargo.

The extra turns make sense! I’m on 2 ATM, might go up to 3 depending on how the deck feels this week of playing.

EZone seems busted in Dargo. Still crazy to me that it’s effectively uncounterable Borne upon a wind as a land. Wild.

Is there a Dardu discord or something similar that I could find? I’m super excited to pick up this deck and I really want to learn it in and out. Thanks again!
