What are your thoughts on the current meta in the league? how does that differ from your local metas or the larger cedh meta as a whole?
personally ive found my local meta has been getting faster, but not nearly to the degree i see in the league. in league games this month i have very rarely been seeing turn 4 in any of my games. rhystic midrange grind games feel like a rarity.
Honestly, the league is too fast and irresponsible for my liking right now. I’d like to see a few more decks eating their fruits and vegetables so we don’t devolve too far into turn order simulator. That said, I’m playing Jund Dargo right now to try to capitalize on the meta being as irresponsible as it is.
Locally in Denver things have definitely sped up, but I’m regularly seeing T4-T5 still in our local tourneys with people generally playing semi responsibly still. I do think Tayam and Tivit are incredibly strong right now and we won’t have much past the release of cabbage man for decks to continue operating at this speed.
I definitely agree that the league being fast isn’t great, but I’ve found that it can also make games swing hard towards the guy with a couple of pieces of interaction. I played a game the other day where somebody showed a commandeer to a table of 3 turbo players and it slowed the game wayyyy down because no one wanted to throw into it.
I’ve been throwing my lot in with the turbo decks of the league and it hasn’t really fit my playstyle. I think I’m gonna try to use the league to practice playing midrange / control into turbo pods. Ultimately the league doesn’t reflect my local meta which makes it nice for testing decks in different environments.
Interesting. I have been personally using the league as a temperature check for larger events. Our experience at Fishbowl 6 largely reflected what we saw in the league in the month leading up to the event.
I would second what Logan said as far as decks I am seeing and overall speed when compared to larger events (locals here have been speeding up much slower). Where I have found it to differ is from players mentality. I have found that in the league players will take riskier pushes and less responsible plays over all. In tournaments I see more players paying for a rhystic or holding a free rock till after the fish dies where in the league each player seems to be ok with giving someone else value even if it could loose them the game as they can get in the the next game so quickly.
I think i heard about this game lol
League is highly turbo pilled and you’re either drawing or losing if you don’t join in on all the turbo hype
I don’t think this is true anymore. It is slowing down pretty substantially this month.
Last week or so ive had more midrange games. First couple weeks of this month was nonstop ral, etali, and rogsi in my experience though.
it might be simply luck of the draw, but this month (december) i am suddenly seeing a pretty large uptick in stax pieces and even stax centric decks floating around. wondering if this might be a response to the shift to turbo as of late.
