Background: MY name is Kevin I started playing magic in 2003 but started playing cedh in 2025. I’ve previously finished 6th at Emperor of Commander event in Osaka on 5 color Terra Turbo which was about 80 people back in October 2025 and top cut multiple smaller cedh events in the Osaka region, now this event was around 170-180 and my first time travelling to the Tokyo region.
I travelled from Osaka the day before and after looking at some lists online and decided to combine a few but added another win con as GoC only has 60min round timers for swiss so I added hullbreaker horror and Vivi Ornitier. Sleeved the deck at 9am at the venue and was ready with Rog/Ishai.

With my hand I kept a t2 Jeska’s will which missed completely, managed to cast Ishai on t3 while seat 1 developed alot of early mana so he was able to cast and pay for his pact of negation to stop the Ral, because he was the furthest ahead I hit him with Ishai once for 11 then he played a wan shi tong to try and block be second swing but Ral killed it to get him out of the game, because seat 4 was ignored the whole game he came back found a removal for my massive bird and managed to out stack us and kill us with combat damage. That game I was so desperate for cards i flashed photography and flashed it back on seat 1’s esper sentinel but it was not enough.

Game was going well for me had multiple early draw engines but didn’t have alot of mana developed but found an early trickbind so i know i can protect myself if someone goes for a win, I found a window on turn 4 to gamble for breach with 6 cards in hand, blue farm player rolls the dice hits a 6 I reveal my sixth card and I discard Underworld Breach 1/6 chance. There goes my window with these 60 minute round timers and then blue farm puts a thassa’s on the stack and magda goes on top of him, I had the trickbind to stock either of them but not both. There are no draws in Japan so i dont kingmake and let the magda player win. 85% chance to win but got unlucky.

Super Grindy game with 4 minutes left in the round Derevi was trying to go for a win Chatterfang killed his Voice of victory but not fast enough so more of the timer went away but I Orim’s chanted him. I head to my turn with about 2 mins left, I cast Silence, Cast Breach, Gamble for firestorm to kill all the stacks creature on board, then put gamble on the stack again with over 20 cards in graveyard and plenty of mana to explain my win but because my Japanese isn’t great the they didn’t really understand and then time was called in the round. So since my win wasn’t on the stack yet and I couldn’t do anything else at instant speed the judge might of not understand that I explained them my win so he called it a draw(we all lose). I was super tilted.
After getting 15% outed and this judge call I was super pissed with how my event was going and my score did not reflect my how I was playing so far in this event

I just out valued all of them with multiple draw engines and mana engine, this game was a 2v1 against me all game, I broke parity with casting Hullbreaker horror after a huge stack, bounced all their engines and proceeded to win with Vivi

Edgar was out the gate going really wide and pressuring alot, MY turn one was a curse of opulence on the TnT player which gave me abit of mana. I developed a t2 ranger captain to block some of edgar’s smaller creature. I caste a storm kiln artist on t3 and was preparing myself to push on t4. There was a few stack battles and win attempts but i managed to keep my ranger captain. I stop edgar’s push with the help of Seat 4 but he still had like 15 creatures in play with a captivating vampire. I start off my turn by cracking the captain, in response he tries to steal my SKA with a captivating vampire activation which i go over the top and he tries to do it again and then I casted a brain freeze with a decent storm count which created like 7 treasures. A judge was called cause they never saw that interaction but my friends were close by and overheard them talking about calling the judge as much as possible to waste time and because im a foreigner. I got my treasures and with breach it was an easy win by milling them all out and making them draw with fairy mastermind.

Ok here we go on seat 4, this game was tragic. I developed a bird early and kept flare and silence up to help with with the Rog/Si but he resolved a t2 necro and we stopped his t3 push, he was setup to go again on t4 but he was a 3 life with a tapped mana vault so effectively at 2. The Rog/Thrass had 2 power on board but one of them was a dryad Arbor. Seat 1 and myself told him to swing at him for two but instead he casted his thrassios with his dryad Arbor so he could only do 1 damage to the Rog/Si player. Rog/Si proceeds to breach and cast praetor’s grasp on the Dihada player to get Aetherflux reservoir as all his wincons were exiled and then kills us all. No one had a board with any cards in hand, I had a 12/12 bird but the Rog/Thrass didn’t kill seat 3 what a ungodly punt by him.
Record 2-4
If luck was on my side or people didn’t punt my record could of easily been alot better. With my 2-4 record and my breakers I was seeded 32 out of the field. Overall the deck felt really good but I was always close to the end of the round timer due to the short rounds of 60 minutes. I am happy with my choice but I am usually a turbo player but I don’t own a Timetwister for Rog/Si yet(only card I need to proxy). I could of maybe played blue farm as a turbo list similar to rog/si but I was expecting alot of blue decks/farm/kinnan and tivet as those are always in the top cut of these events.
